I just received an email from someone saying that, "In just 4 days from today all US. cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies and you will begin to receive sales calls..."it continued on in more detail. Is this an urban legend or something true?
Are There Other Posts on the Internet?
That prove or disprove this email. Well here's what I found. The FTC, Federal Trade Comission issued a few different press releases with the most recent saying, "Despite Re-Circulating E-mail, It is Still Not Necessary to Register Cell Phone Numbers" {in the do-not-call registry}. They go on to say, "Contrary to the e-mail, cell phone numbers are NOT being released to telemarketers, and you will NOT soon be getting telemarketing calls on your cell phone"
What Should I do if I Do Get Telemarketer Calls on my Cell Phone?
The best thing to do when you don't recognize the caller-id on your cell phone is to not answer and let them leave a message. If its important, they'll leave a message. You can also identify more information about the caller this way. If you do answer the call on your cell, and the caller is a telemarketer, you can ask them to stop calling you on your phone. Make sure to get their name, company name, date/time they called, AND ask them to put you on their do not call list. You can also look up their information on a free reverse phone directory and file a complaint to warn others.
